2004 yamaha tach problems

Hello I have a 2004 yamaha 150 four stroke with a faria tach on my last trip out I began to get false tach readings at 30 miles per hour my tach fluctuates between 6 and 7 thousand rpm which I know is way to high for that speed any ideas what the problem might be.Thanks Wes

Likely a problem with the tach itself.

faria tachs are garbage out of the box and get worse once installed. buy the factory digital. ya I know it actaully costs money but its worth it.
