Recentlly bought 2001 90 hp 4 stroke with under 100 hrs rarely used stored on boat in garage 10 yrs.. good sea trial first, trouble starting 4 time used and brought in for service. full of emulsified oil water shooting out of cyl #4. diagnosis water passge blocked with sand causing hot spot, overheating, blown head gasket. Repair estimate $3000. O.K. head sent to machine shop , soaked in mineral oil, and shop tells mechanic the head has microcorrosion and cannot be fixed. new estimate $5600. Mechanic says Suzuki changed alloy to save weight at that time and there have been many corrosion problems. He expressed concern that even a replacemnt head maybe the weak alloy and fail again in a few years (used in salt water I flush regularly) Is this true or am I being hosed? should I bag the motor (funds very short) or can I have faith in a replacement head? Please advise quickly. Thanks
