I am new to working on boats, I have worked on two stroke engines etc before and I am a professional crane mechanic. I understand how things work etc....That being said I am NOT a boat mechanic. My father in law purchased a boat with this engine and was told that it ran fine, just needed the carbs cleaned. I volunteered. I have posted a link to a yuu tube video. It sounds to me like a few cylinders are not firing. I cleaned and installed the recommended kits from the local boat mechanic and it really didn't make a difference. Any help would be appreciated. I have ordered a book and will continue to T/S.
Re: 1995 Yamaha 150 2 stroke will not idle runs rough
being a mechanic you should know to do the basic tests on any motor you start working on and post the results for us to see also.
Just because some one selling the motor says it is a good motor does not mean anything
compression, spark, timing
The Yamaha service manual will give the specs and procedures needed for testing all systems
also for adjusting carbs after reinstalling after proper cleaning

I agree about the basics--no book yet--as soon as I get the book I will resume testing etc. As far as trusting the previous owner the guy is a trusted person not some random stranger off the street. I was really just asking if someone who had experience with these engines could listen to the video and make a comment.
