1987 yamaha 115 2 stroke carb rebuild tips and tach advise

I bought a repair manual by clymer. It is not very specific about factory adjustments after the rebuild. It Gives the initial idle screw adjustments for V6 but not for the V4 115 and 130 hp. all the adjustments are by rpm. Is there any presets to start with on the carb and what is the cheapest tach I can purchase to dial in my motor?

i would guess that 1 1/2 would get you close, to start, i am a fan of a favoring on the rich side,as far as tach maybe generic teleflex, or faria(if they still make them)

will any tach work or does it have to be for a v4 boat?

I usually go to the adjustment screws, and count the revolutions to screw them in fully. Then, I set'em back at the same settings. Much of present day fuel system problems are a result of 90/10 (gasoline/ethanol) separating and acids eating up rubber items. Sticking needle valves under the floats are especially problematic.

It sounds as if you're not using any tach for regular day to day running. These engines are bulletproof and long living, but a good tach is simply a must have.

For the first generation Yamaha 115/130: On EbayMotors.com and you'll find used OEM Yamaha analog tach's with the two warning lights (for the oil system). You might have to do some filtering and page scrolling to find'em, but they're there for about $100.
