    Default Throttle controller problem

100_0624a.jpgHave a 1983 Bayliner with AQ125A and 270 outdrive. Broke a throttl cable yesterday. As I was replacing it, one of the electrical wires that connect to the controller broke. As I tried to take the broken end off a piece came off with it. I am trying to fugure out how it goes back in. Here is a picture of the piece that came out. It goes in by the piece on the controller that has the blade.

It sure looks like a part of a microswitch. Best bet is to get the controller taken apart or off the boat enough to look at it closer. If it is a switch, find as many pieces of it as you can so you know how it works. Then take the parts to an electronic supply house and match it to one there. There are a few different configurations but some you can switch contacts for normally open or normally closed to make it work for your application.

It's most likely a part of the neutral safety switch. That switch interupts the ignition so it won't start when the boat is in gear. There was an event near here a few years ago when someone started their boat in gear and it jumped up on the dock and knocked someone into the water. Thankfully nobody was hurt but they could have been. It's one of those safety things that are there for your safety and the safety of people around you.

Good luck at Radio Shack. If they don't have the switch, be sure to ask them if they know of who is near to you that does.

Some of the ACE hardware stores have a selection of micro switches. Look in the area of all the small bins and drawers. Or just ask someone older than 16.
