Installing U Jint Bellows and Gimbal Bearing 2000 Volvo Penta

This is the wife translating for the hubby he is in the garage working on the boat. He has installed the parts and is putting the u Joint Bellows shaft back on and in and it will not go in the last inch. He has taken it off rechecked the bearing, the spline on the shaft, etc and retried.....It has got to be something simple please put him out of his misery.....Thank you!!

Did he check the alignment? Grease the splines? put oil on the orings on the shaft?

He said yes to all. Also said he can turn the engine (spline) with the prop, but it just won't go in the last 1/2 inch.
