So I go to fire up the boat this afternoon and I got gas spraying all over the bilge. After looking around I see that it is come from the fuel rail just after the the fuel pressure regulator. I pull the upper manifold off and now I have a few questions:
1) does the fuel pressure regulator separate from the fuel line/ fuel rail?
2) It looks like the fuel rail separates from the "fuel pipe", is this the case?
3) are the injectors secured by any kind of fitting / fasteners? Will they need to be removed?
4) if so, how fragile are the injectors?
There will probably be many more once this is said and done but I thank you in advance. If anybody has any parts sitting on a "donor engine" please let me know. I need to get out of this cheap and spring break is right around the corner.
thanks,
Aaron
It's been a long time since I looked at one of those systems, there are some clips holding the injectors to the fuel rails, but that's about all I remember as far as details go. Here is a link to the service manuals for your engine http://www.4shared.com/dir/14518373/...WTsharing.html
The info you are looking for is in the EFI diagnostic manual.
The bad news, is the pictures are horrible, so here is the diagnostic manual from the newer model, with better pictures. Just use the procedures from the proper manual, and hopefully the pictures are the same. http://www.4shared.com/document/-5lO...iagnostic.html

Got the fuel rail out and I know for sure that I'm going to need to replace it, along with the fuel pressure regulator. I don't get it, this little fuel pressure reg is $475.00 form Volvo. The fuel rail is $300... Does anybody know if there is a universal / aftermarket fuel pressure reg or fuel rail? I understand it's a boat so everything is always ridiculously priced but this seem crazy... Anybody have any good salvage yards to get used parts?
Thanks again BruceB58, that guy has the best pricing so far, unless someone else chimes in with a good lead I'll be placing an order with them tomorrow.
The only thing you have to worry about in buying things from them is watch out for shipping charges on heavy items since they get dropped shipped from Volvo and they like to used FedXx next day or 2 day shipping with no other options. Just do one more check with the shipping price if you can first.
Last time I ordered something from them, they gave me the option of having it shipped to them first with their normal shipments and then sendign it to me USPS when ended up being a lot cheaper.
What's wrong with the rail. Did it crack? Make sure it didn't just come away from the manifold allowing the fuel out. When you removed it were all the fasteners in tight? Any loose fasteners can mimic a crack.
