Default 1996 Volvo 4.3l fuel pump

I'm trying to get the correct fuel pump for my supposedly 1996 Volvo 4.3l sx. The part number off the existing one is 3850809. When I cross reference two numbers come up - 18-7326 and 18-7329. Besides these two choices the original part # is tied to 1993-94 4.3l but not 1996. Cross reference for 1996 indicates a high pressure fuel pump 3857650. My hull indicates a 1996 boat. What gives and what is the correct replacement. I didn't find an ID or SN on the engine. Could I have a 1994 engine in a 1996 boat? I bought it used several years ago.
    thanks

Tim: It's possible you may have a 1995 engine in a 1996 boat as that is common. Don is looking for the 3-4 letters after "4.3". "SX" is your drive. The letters will tell him the engine type and year.

That said, if you have a carburetor you can rule out the high pressure pump as that was only used on engines with MPI. Many of the old part numbers have been superceded, including your original part number, which has been replaced by 3858261 (the same pump my engine uses). When you order your pump, don't forget to order the O-rings (one for each end) #s: 3850819 & 3850820. The 18- numbers you're finding are aftermarket parts (Sierra)...

And one more thing, if you have a machined SS fitting on top of your pump, be very careful with it and understand how it works so as to not overtighten it. See this thread...

    I really appreciate everyones help!

The sticker that supposed to have the info was there but there was no info. I did see a serial # (barely) at the back of the motor where it said Colby and the best I could tell the # was 10360916. Also my bill of sale had a motor VIN # 4110129816 if that helps.

The reason I'm looking at replacing the fuel pump is for 3rd year now motor is fine with me alone running for 45 -60 min at 2800 rpm but loaded with 4-5 people pulling a 3 person float at 3500 rpm it will sputter and quit after 25-30 min. It will restart immediately and run 10-20 sec getting up on plane and then quit. If I let it sit several hours I can start the process over again. Hundreds of dollars of mechanic work i.e. plugs, carb kit, etc were done last year and have replaced fuel filter a couple of times with no sign of water. So I thought maybe the fuel may be the problem I was also thinking about replacing the coil although the problem tends to occur when under a load.

    Thanks

I forgot to mention that there is a Holley carb and the boat is a Chriscraft.

The full model number is 4.3GS PNCA the NC means it's a 96 engine, and the GS says its a GM carbed engine.
The Volvo part number for the pump for your engine is 3858261 as bruce mentioned. I would suggest before you buy a pump that you check the fuel pump pressure when it's malfunctioning. I would even run the test below before replacing the pump.

I was able to see my numbers better today and what I sent on the sn was wrong. The sn is T0360196 and the manufactor number is 3868175. Based on these numbers do I still have 4.3GS PNCA?
    Thanks

I just sent you a PM with the Hull ID number. If this is the number on your boat, then yes, you have a 4.3GS PNCA

    Not Don

Not sure what you meant " sent PM". I didn't receive anything. Also I need to invest in a manual. What do you recommend?
    Thanks

PM stands for private messages. Look at the upper right of this page, just under where it says Welcome summertime

The number you sent was incorrect! The F is a G and the 6 is a 4. Otherwise the other numbers are correct. Does this change the motor I have? Also cCould you recommend a manual I could purchase.
    thanks

Don't have a clue about what you have. That 3868175 spec number is for the transom shield. The HIN could be fore a completely different model. Till you find a good SN and/or full model number, It's hard to say what you have for sure.
