1983 volvo 125aq gimbal bearing?

hi do the 1983 volvo 125 aq 270 outdrive have a gimbal bearing.started up boat today with eng .cover off ,hear a rattling type noise back behind eng.noise gets louder when increase throttle.does it hot or cold.first time ran mtr with cover off.any ideas?thanks in advance for any help.

It's not a gimbal bearing like a mercruiser, but there are 1 or 2 bearings in the flywheel cover. If they get water in them because of a faulty ujoint bellows, you will have to pull the engine to remove the flywheel cover and replace the bearings. DO NOT keep running it with bad bearings. You won't believe how expensive those flywheel housings are. And if a bearing locks up and spins in the housing, it will have to be replaced.

thanks for the help don.im going to find another housing rebuild it ,then pull motor and do straight swap. ernie
