1979 fiberform 305 volvo penta fuel problem

boat stalls 100-200 yards out, no gas in float bowl. sprayed starter fluid and it ran till that was gone. pulled hose off filter side going to pump and heard air being released, I reconnected hose and it started and ran another 100-200 yards limp back to dock I've put on new fuel pump, filter, flushed the tank, i can run it all day in the yard,but put it in the water goes about 100-200 yards and dies, its like its getting gas and then air some how gets in and then no gas . i dont know , i am a beginner boater, need help please and yes it has plenty of gas

Need to replace all the old hoses.Ethanol is de-laminating the hoses and making them leak/suck air.Change filters while your at it.

Could be a clogged vent line or fittng. Try running with the gas cap off or cracked open to allow air into the tank and see if it does the same thing. I also agree with Jerry, if you still have the original hoses, they should be replaced.
