    Default Swing away tongue ?

My new rig is ordered and dealer advises that when the boat is on the trailer everthing will measure about 24 ft from coast to coast. However my garage is about 6 inches better than 24 ft and I would like to have a few more bonus inches to walk around the boat. I also need to be able to get my tractor out in the winter to plow snow. I could angle the boat in the garage but would anticipate loosing a lot of useful space by doing this. I am considering a swing away tongue which will give me about 18" to 2ft. extra room but have a few questions and concerns:Does the swing away tongue result in any additional sway when towing and can sway controls be used with swing tongues if I wish to put one on?Does it require any more maintenance than a conventional fixed tongue? Is it just as safe to tow as a conventional fixed tongue? Are there any other advantages or disadvantages to help influence my decision?I looked at a swing tongue set up outside their showroom and it seemed to lock up relatively solid. I'm just not sure if I will have to make any compromises if I decide to go the swing away tongue route. The dealer indicates there is no upcharge for the swing tongue which will be on a Caravan tandem bunk trailer. The fixed tongue alternative would be a Load Rite tandem bunk trailer. Both trailers would be rigged with surge brakes on all four wheels with a brake flush kit. The boat is a 19'11" polar center console weighing in around 2600 lbs with motor. I am pulling it with a Chev. 2500 Silverado w/Duramax Diesel.Helpful advice appreciatedKevin

"Does the swing away tongue result in any additional sway when towing " No, It's Rigid..... "can sway controls be used with swing tongues if I wish to put one on?" Don't Know... Depends on Whose Controls...You Really Shouldn't Need Any....Sway is Usually caused by Impropper Set-Up.... "Does it require any more maintenance than a conventional fixed tongue?" Other than a drop of oil now + then.... No... "Is it just as save to tow as a conventional fixed tongue?" YES.... "Are there any other advantages or disadvantages to help influence my decision?" None I can see... For the Same Money..?? Go For It......Your 3/4 ton Chevy will Never Know your boat is Even There.........

Thanks Bondo,BTW, I hope to cristen my new boat with a little road trip up to Clayton next year to fetch a few northerns after ice out. We usually camp at Cedar Point or Grassy Point but we sold the camper to buy the boat and will now be looking for a cottage or cabin to rent on our trips to the 1000 islands.Kevin
