Thread: Hub v/s Spindle

    Default Hub v/s Spindle

So, since the weather is bad here in the northwest, I thought I'd work on my EZ Loader Trailer. I purchased 2 Replacement preassembled hubs from West Marine. Since I've never done trailer work before, I watched a couple of videoes on youtube and thought I had it down pat. Armed with my Hub replacement kits and enough grease to grease all the neighbor's trailers, I removed the old hub, severely rusted and pitted and actually had difficulty removing the bolts.

I greased the new set and mounted it on the spindle....only to find out my spindle isn't long enough....??????

The new hubs appear to be around 1/2" longer....does anyone know what I can do now? Looking on the internet that's suppose to be standard....any ideas?

Your hub assembly is probably set for a 1" spindle and you have 1 1/16" spindle.

Look at the numbers on the fat side of the bearings are they the same.

No the bearings are identical...it's the actual physical width of the inner race. If I lay both hubs side to side, the difference is considerable.

Some older EZ-Loaders had short spindles. I had one of them. Hubs are available, but hard to find, for those. I got mine from one of the trailer superstores, but really had to hunt for a long time.

There's no option, unless you want to change axles. The shorter spindles are 1/2" less deep than the standard ones. Bearings are the same.

No problem. I had to solve the same problem myself. If I can save someone else some time, that's good.
