Default Bulldog coupler and electric brakes

My plan was to fix my surge brakes and replace the hydraulic actuator, but a salesman at a local trailer parts store has really been pushing electric brakes. I've already cut out the old coupler and added a tongue extension, so going this route I could upgrade to a bulldog coupler rather than replacing the actuator.

I know electric brakes are a little controversial, but this does seem like a better system (cab-controlled braking force, no reverse-lockout issues, brakes down the ramp, no surge coupler slop, lower maintenance, etc.).

I haven't found many posts about using a rigid coupler and electric brakes on a boat trailer, but other than taking extra care to ensure all the electrical connections are waterproof, this seems like a no-brainer. Am I missing something?

    Thanks

Nope, no problems when going to electric brakes. The brakes shouldn't need any more maintenance than hydraulic as long as you aren't constantly dealing with salt water.
