88 capri 2.3l ford resistor wire, overheated coil

Fyi. So I got rid of the cheap rotor with the metal clip inside and put the old molded plastic rotor on. U know the one u really got to press on to get it to seat. All my timing bounce went away. Getting there!

Any updates after this ? having the exact same issue with my OMC 2.3

Yes, I pulled the distributor, removed the gear at the base, pulled the shaft out and cleaned the advance weights. The springs were weak and not advancing the timing. The real fix is to replace the distributor with a electronic one. But lubing the weights and changing the springs fixed it.
