I just purchased a 1988 340 DA (our 4th boat) which doesn't have a windlass. I am looking to install a windlass and looking for advise. More particularly, what style of windlass is best suited for this boat, vertical or horizontal. Also, is running the necessary wiring from batteries to windlass going to be a problem. Any and all tips on the installation will be be appreciated.

I installed a windlass on my 33 foot Formula.

Vertical windlass gives you a cleaner installation.

It is a lot of work

You may have to take down the headliner in the cabin to properly route the wiring to the bow.

You will want to make sure to use a backing board when you mount the windlass.

Hopefully you’ve got a space in the instrument panel for the extra switch.

Many of the boat companies use Carling Technology switches, so you could verify what SeaRay used and get an appropriate switch

You will want a self-launching anchor roller.

Many of the windlass companies have a full kit with all the bits and pieces, except the wiring.
