I have one!
1983 with a dreaded OMC stringer drive.
Tempests are very common boats in central Ontario...There's thousands of them out and about...
I test drove a 26' cuddy Formula shaped thing once with twin 3.0's...odd power package...
I had one! Does that count? It was 1984 20' cuddy with an OMC 5.0 ltr and a 800 series stringer. It was a great boat and with that power it would do 47-48 mph (boat speedo). There are still new Tempests being built today, BOATMAX on hwy 400 sells them, not as many models as there used to be.
1978 Tempest SS180 17.5' with the OMC Stringer.. bought it off my boss for $750 bucks with a Calkins roller trailer. OMC 120 Stringer.. redid the interior,.. the boat sank in Lake Simcoe.. almost ready! Bought new decals for it on E-bay for like 10 bucks for 4, almost ready, will post pics when it's finally done.
I had one too back in the late '90's. It replaced an aging (1970'ish) Grew 234 that was too big for the local lakes. An inexpensive boat, lots of painted wood in it, horribly underpowered with the 60 on it. Could never get the Merc 3-cyl 2-stroke to idle well (not the boat's fault). I had it set up for fishing and had fun none the less. Ended up getting a very good price when it came time to sell since I maintained it in showroom condition.
Good, fast, cheap...pick two!
