Engine starts with kill switch off

My engine starts up with the kill switch pulled off & will not shut off if I pull it off. It is a 2001 Johnson 150 Ocean Pro. Any help is appreciated.

its desined to start with the lanyard off if its a oem switch. if its properly set and pulled it shoud shut down. it makes a connection between the blk/yellow wire and ground. once pulled the engine can be restarted without the lanyard.<br /> good luck and keep posting

You probably need a new ignition switch.The lanyard physically "turns" the switch off.It no longer grounds out the power pack.OMC figured the old system that grounded the ignition / kept the boat from running the driver over,made it hard for the survivours to get ashore.<br /><br />DHP

I will check again & make sure it shuts off when lanyard is pulled when running I know for sure it will turn on without lanyard this confused me I did not think it was supposed to start with lanyard off. Thanks
