I have replace my 3 wire vro with a 4 wire from DFI a few months ago. Does anyone know if this changes the warning horns?? I used to get a steady horn for fuel restriction and temp. also would get a warning for low oil (in the tank). With the new unit I am getting the temp and fuel restriction and now have 1/2 second beep for no oil and there does not be a warning for the oil tank anymore?? I was testing the system this weekend. I am having the horn go as i turn on the key (motor is not starting) The horn will stop if i push in for choke. Dont know if the pressure switch is bad or what??

Re: DFI OMS pump and warning horn

whaler.....when you turn the key on, you should get a short self test beep. Then it should stop. The oil reservoir low oil alarm should still be there. The best sure way to test is to take the four torx head screw out of the reservoir unit and lift the sending unit up until the float makes contact with the alarm contacts.
If there is no alarm, then the sending unit in the reservoir is bad or check the two connections under the motor hood. One should go to ground and the other to the motor harness.

If the alarm continues to sound until you press in on the key, there is a problem.

OBJ, Thanks for the reply. I do not have the self test feature. I did test the oil tank sending unit and both (i have twins) did not work??

The oil tank alarm only beeps like every 40 seconds. Make sure you test it for at least that long.

Walker is right on. Wait for it. Seems like it takes forever but should happen if the sending units are good.

Do you have the tone alarm or the older buzzer type? I had the old buzzer on my 86' 50hp and changed it to the newer tone type. I kinda like the sound of the tone when I turn the key on. Lets' me know that at least the alarm works.

OBJ, I have the the older buzzer. Do I only need to change the buzzer to get the alarm at start up an add any other items?? Also Any idea what the cost of the horns are?? Thanks for the responses. I will also test this weekend and wait longer. Great point because I dont think I waited long enought this past weekend

I think the new horn kit for your rig would run in the ballpark of $56. There is some modification to the control box also if yours is an older one....drilling a few holes and filing down a casting stud. Would make a good winter project if you can get by with the old buzzer. OH! and ya' don't have to be a brain surgeon to do the job either. :)
