Key ring choke?

I have an older (1980) 2 hp Evinrude that has what looks like a keyring attached to the choke pull. That is, you pull the ring to set the choke. It works fine, but why a ring and not just a knob? Is something supposed to be attched to it?

Re: Key ring choke?

The 1980 2hp incorporates a choke lever which looks like a piece of white nylon plastic material. It does not have a knob on the end such as the larger engines, but rather has indentations that the operator can grab onto.

If that plastic arm is sticking out, I'd assume that someone simply drilled into it and afixed that ring for some purpose.

The OMC part number is 314147. You can use this number to view that item at your local dealership.

Thanks, Joe!

It looks like the previous owner did such a neat job adding it that I assumed it was like that from the factory.

My brother insisted it was there so he could keep the little motor on his keyring ... ;)
