71-72 or 78-79 Evenrude 4 cyl 100 h.p.. I can start the engine (hooked up to a garden hose with suction cup over water intake) with the cold lever up and[/list]choking and it will run @ idle. When I put into forward/Rev it dies. If I keep the cold lever about half way up and put it into gear I can put it in forward/Rev and it will accelerate to high speeds and pumps good water. When I put it in the water it will start(Idle) but then boggs out on acceleration and dies. Would this be coils/coil pack or carb problems. It has (4)coils to each cyl.Thank you!

may be start with a compression check before you do anything.could be a lot of things.bad compressionleaking air somewhere in fuelsystemwater in tankweak sparkdirty carbsvent from tank cloggedetc etc
