I'm looking at purchasing a 28 foot boat with twin Evinrude 200's FICHT Model Year 200's. I've read and learned of the reported problems with these motors. This pair seems well maintained, have had the factory mandatory upgrades and have about 225 total hours. The seller reports no problems except one of the engines having a oil leak requiring a seal replacement. Any recommendations? Would you advise an engine survey?

Based on all that has been posted here I would steer clear of that rig even with a engine survey. Go to the red search at the top of the page & enter FICHT & read away.

if moters have been installed and serviced properly (big if) they are very good reliable units be sure to use evinrude xd-50 oil or xd-100 don't try using cheap oil good luck and happy boating

Can you get a verified service and lubrication history on the engines?

If all of the Bombardier upgrades have been properly installed those should be pretty reliable engines.

If not they are a fire hazard and should be avoided.

As MarineMech says, they MUST use oil specified for Bombardier DFI engines. Price has nothing to do with it. Oil specs are what counts.
