1988 30hp Johnson Misfires

Hello this is my 1st posting...have enjoyed all the knowledge here. I have a 1988 30hp Johnson that started to misfires at the end of the last season. On acceleration it seems to be dropping a cylinder but only depends on where i put the throttle position. When it starts missing if I back off slightly it will smooth out, if I increase the throttle it missfires. It has even started to run poorly at idle. When I run the engine in a barrel at idle it is smooth most times but as I bring the throttle up in neutral a little bit it starts this "kicking" or "bucking" like a misfire. Compression is 100lbs both cylinders.I have changed the plugs QL77JC4. Replaced one igition coil as the lower cylinder spark plug felt cool and I thought maybe it was misfiring. I have installed a carb kit including float. I checked the fuel pump for output...good stream. I also checked the fuel pump on the vacuum side to see if it was leaking...no leak. This engine has a manual primer but it seems to be not leaking. I ran combustion chamber cleaner through the engine. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks..Model number is CJ30TELCCE.

Welcome to iboats Garman, glad ta have ya aboard.<br /><br />Get yourself a spray bottle and put some premix in it. Throttle the engine up to the point where it starts runnin' ragged and then give the carb a little shot of the premix. If the engine smooths out and runs like it should for a few seconds, you've got a fuel problem. If it floods out immediately, the problem is probably an ignition breakdown. My bet is you have a partially plugged orfice in the carburetor. Do the deal with the spray bottle and post back (on this posting, not a new one) and tell us what ya found out.<br /><br />c/6<br />Hooty
