without any warning one day while fishing the motor stays in forward gear when in Neutral or in Reverse. checked all the linkage seems to be working fine...just wanted to know if anybody knew anything before i tear the lower end apart
Disconnect the shift cable at the motor and see if you can shift the motor by hand. Since you lost everything except forward, my bet would be a broken shift cable.
