1980 Johnson 12 Hp Motor

I have the opportunity to get a 1980 Johnsom 12 Hp long shaft outboard. What is the difference betweeen the 9.9 & 12? Are they completly different motors? I was told it was built for the foreign market and parts are still available.<br />Any info will be appreciated before I lay my bucks down

is it possible the carb is different or am I way off base here??

I heard the 12 hp May be a Military or a commercial Motor Can anyone give me any information on that or tell me where to look???

Most likely the 12hp. was a limited production motor designed for use on (new)sailboats at the time.Every 12 I have seen has been long shaft(sailboat motor).The 9.9 and 15hp's are similar,so the 12 may be a retuned 9.9(10)hp.If anyone has seen a shortshaft 12hp please post.
