115 Ficht problem

I have a 2001, 115 Evinrude Ficht which has always run rough, especially at higher rpm. I have had it in for warranty work and they don't seem to be able to solve the problem. It feels like I am dragging a bait bucket with what sounds like a popcorn maker, according to people on shore listening. I have noticed that when I am under a heavy load (pulling 3 water skiers or lots of people) the motor runs fine. It seems to be at its worst when I am alone in the boat and it is not under any load. Is there a load sensor in this motor that could be faulty?
Thanks

Re: 115 Ficht problem

There is an exhaust pressure sensor connected to the computer box (EMM) that tells the "load" on the motor. If it has not been cleaned every 100 hours, it may be carboned up and clogged.

What is your top rpm at full throttle with a normal load of fuel and folks?

Re: 115 Ficht problem

Top rpm is now 5500 after switching to a 19 pitch 13 1/4 inch stainless prop. I took it into a dealer today who changed the load sensor. This did not help at all. He loaded up the motor with a 21 pitch stainless which only made things worse. He believes it is somehow connected to feul delivery (too rich at higher rpm). I had to leave my boat there and there is talk of sending the powerhead away to the factory for further testing.
