1975 25 HP Johnson O/B cuts out

I have been having a problem with my engine cutting out under a load... More then a 1/3 throttle it cuts out and feels like you hit something.. Very sharp cut out...I have replaced both coils, points, condensors, plugs, new fuel and rebuilt the carb.. Time advance is set up correctly... Will a boarder line pick up coil cause this problem? Any ideas?

Is the engine actually misfiring, or, is the clutch dog in the lower unit slipping?

I changed the gear lube and it appears clean. It is a very sharp short term loss... It was almost like I hit something the first time it started..

Your description sounds like a slipping clutch dog. Try pulling the gear selelector forward, and see if that can stop or slow the banging. I would think you could also feel it through the gear selector.
