Wiring for early 70's Evinrude 40hp

Hi<br />I have an early 70's Evinrude 40 hp electric start.<br /><br />Can anyone tell me what the follwing wires are in the main cable. i think two of these wires join to make a cut off switch?<br /><br />2 black<br />1 white<br />1 red<br />1 purple/white stripe<br /><br />thanks

Hi Steve...welcome to iboats.<br /><br />The 2 black wires are for stopping the engine. You would connect these to the two "M's" on the ignition switch.<br /><br />The white goes to the starter solenoid.<br /><br />Red is battery power.<br /><br />Purple/white stripe is the choke solenoid lead.<br /><br />Think I got those right.... :)
