Prop act as if it clutches out in fwd

I took it out and it acted as if it was going in reverse. Went in to FWD fine then we went five miles down river and it went Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!! I thought busted shear pin but it was fine. I pushes the boat if you don't go much over a fast idle. Evinrude 1970 40 hp Model #40053a

RWM....the prop hub is spun. Take it off and take it to a prop shop for re-hubbing.<br /><br />Ya' need to post only once also....if ya' want to get your post back to the top, just click "Add Reply" and put a "^" in the reply. That'll get it back to the top.

I thought the old Evinrudes didn't have rubber in the hub. I see a paper thin sheet of rubber coming out between the brass hub at top and the top of the prop.With the shear pin type prop I thought that it was more less a solid unit.

It's spun. They appeared solid, yet are not.
