All conditions being equal, is it better to run a smaller engine at WOT or a larger engine at half-throttle for extended periods of time. Assume neither motor is being lugged, boat is cruising along on plane. Which is better for engine wear? Which is better for fuel economy? Both engines are 2strokes, 15hp or less. Thanks for your input.

Big motor at half speed equals less wear and tear than running a small outboard full out all the time. Probably better fuel economy, too.

I would agree 100% with Rick on his opinion. I don't think any of the 2 strokers are designed for full throttle for an extended period of time. I've just seen/heard too many stories about engines being blown at full throttle.Usually they will seize up.
