Have an old 72 65 hspr evinrude, and believe the safety switch is a problem as it won't start. Can the wires be removed that go back to the ignition switch from the safety switch without causing a problem. If it starts, another safety switch can be installed
Thanks,
Skip

Re: Safety Switch

Are you talking about the switch controlled by the throttle arm or by the shift?

Re: Safety Switch

Yes you can wire around it temporarily but be sure you fix it. Thats a real dangerous switch to leave out.

We assume the motor does not even turn over. If it turns over but wont start, thats another problem.

Can the wires be removed from the ignition switch, and then try to start the engine or do they have to be rewired another way.

Thanks
Skip

Re: Safety Switch

Need to clarify my last remark. The wires that I'm talking about removing are the wires that come from the safety switch to the ignition.
n

thanks
Skip

Re: Safety Switch

Just remove the wires from the neutral safty switch and temporairly hook them together.

Again -- be very careful!!

Also, if the motor turns over but doesnt spark, this is not the problem.
