74 135hp Starflite, I believe I have no spark on at least 1 cycl. This is only based on one cycl/spark plug being cooler to touch than the others and motor running rough. Any advise on rigging a spark testing devive? Would a timing light pick up difference between a weak and strong spark. Many thanks, dm.

Re: Spark Tester

For a quick check, take all of the spark plugs out and reconnect them to the wires. Then lay them against the block (you can usually set them behind the wiring but you do not want to hold them with your hand.) Then watch for spark while someone cranks. If you see fire on all four plugs, let us know.

Re: Spark Tester

I suspect a faulty ignition coil, visually they all look in poor condition and probably need a change, I will test the plugs as you suggest thanks dm.

Re: Spark Tester

Have one of your beer drinkin friends hold the wire while you crank, if he/she pees their pants the spark on that cyl is good. Good test for finding spark bad for friendships though
