misfiring cylinder evinrude 50

hello again - still having problems with top cylinder in 92 evinrude 50hp. brief history ...

- engine started running on one cylinder

- swapped plugs when flushing and it ran on two

- no water evident in gear lube or piston

- took it for a test run this morning and will only run on top cylinder again

- changed plugs but only bottom cylinder fired

- swapped plug leads with no success

- compression seems ok, havnt tested but is blowing hard and clean (no water)

any ideas on next step ? could it be a faulty connection somewhere ? - it seemed for a split second it fired on two this morning.

any help muchly appreciated

What year model?? Is it the CD ignition with only one coil??

1992, not sure on other details ...

It would be a great idea to take a compression test. Next I would get a spark tester and check the spark from each plug wire NAPA sells them for 11.49, napa part number 700-2015. set it at a 7/16 gap and make sure you get a good strong spark on both cylinders. If not it may be coils, wires, power pack, etc. Check all the basics first.
