i have an evinrude 55 horse 55672e, with a jet.
i sharpened the impellor cleaned the rough edges up,i can turn my flywheel forward but not in reverse.
there is a slight bit of grinding but i figure it will smooth out with use.
i tested it at the boat launch it worked great but the shear pin [brass] came off the shaft.
it is a long [1.5"] square shaped pin that lays in the shaft groove, and the impellar slides over it.
its a jetco jet not sure year.
does this sound like the propper shear pin.
and did i maybe put the nut on too tight that goes below impellar.
thanks to any who reply.

Re: outboard jet trouble

I'm not sure on the Jetco units, but the Outboard Jets use shims that are normally below the impeller & under the nut. There are usually about 10 shims here as it comes from the factory.
When the impeller gets worn, you move enough shims from below the impeller to above the impeller to pushes the impeller down into the liner to close up some of the gap.
