sparkplug gap

hi,first post need to know plug gap for 98 v4 90hp evinrude.Saw a older post suggesting.30 and.40. find it confusing.what are you guys recommending it be set at.The local dealer says.42 I say thats nuts so my new plugs just sit there till im sure

OMC specified .040 in the old days, Ritchn.<br /><br />Late 80s or thereabout they changed the spec for all engines, new and old, to .030.<br /><br />Either will work. The .040 will take more idling without fouling, the .030 will keep a usable gap longer and is less likely to misfire.<br /><br />Some guys gap at .035. I gap at .030.<br /><br />Your choice.<br /><br />Good luck. :)
