where do I find the engine ID for my Johnson outboard 2 stroke? the cover says 115 but I was told that it was not the original cover and that it is a 130HP not 115. Also need to identify the year. brian_harrod@hotmail.com

Found it, thanks, the ID is 135683G
I am expiereincing two problems with it right now.
1. It is hard to start when cold. a shot of starting fliud will get it going. sometimes you have to move the lever to hold the choke down and it will start. After you get it started, you can shut it off and it will start ok until the engine gets cold.
2. After it warms up 15-20min it won't stay idling. It will idle ok when cold (not sure of the RPM). After it warms up it will idle around 600rpm and try to keep idleing but dies. It will start right back up no problem but when you move the throttle down so you can put it into gear it dies. Also smells like it is running rich. The previous owner said that bigger jets were put in the carbs and the engine was also bored over. Can the idle air mixture be adjusted?
Someone had mentioned it might be an electrical problem like a coil pack. I have taken it in to have the idle adjusted twice and still have the same problem.

Re: engine ID

I spoke with the previous owner and he said that it was a 135hp bored 30 over and 140HP carbs were put on with oversize jets. He also said that the lower unit of the motor is a 115HP but the upper is equivalent of 140HP.
My biggest problem right now is that it won't stay idle when hot. trys to around 600rpm but dies when you put it into gear. If you are lucky enough to get it into gear before it dies you can throttle up and it will run fine. Also smells like it is running rich but that could be due to the jets.
