Run-a-way Engine...

In reading the repair manual for my v4 Johnson 90hp it states numerous times not to rev the engine when cooling muffs are on and to only rev the engine in a test tank or lake/ocean... Why - What happens if you do?<br /><br />Thanks

It can run away with you. As to say it can over Rev itself and sling all the inner working parts outside of it. You have no back pressure on it with the muffs on.
