1996 EVINRUDE 70HP IGNITION PROBLEM

I HAVE BEEN WORKING ON THIS PROBLEM. http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=28;t=023952;p=1#000000 <br /><br />NOW I HAVE TRACKED SHORT TO PURPLE WIRE FORM BACK OF IGNITION. EVERYTHING WORKS GREAR EXCEPT NO WARNING LAMPS OR OTHER INDICATORS. ANYTIME I ATATCH PURPLE WIRE TO IGNITION FUSE ON MOTOR BLOWS . UNATTATCHED IT WILL START AND RUN WITH NO PROBLEMS. ANY SUGGESTION WOULD LOVE SOME HELP WANT TO GO NOODLING TOMORROW. THANKS

Daniel....if none of your dash accessories are working and were feed from the purple wire, check them. One may have gone to ground. The fuse on the block is actually the feed for the purple wire through the ignition switch.

Is your charging system working?The purple wires throughout your electrical system is keyed 12 volt supply.There is also a purple wire that feeds the 12 volt source to the Reg/Rec.if your engine still has the original.
