eng flush and t-stats

I took the hoses off the t-stat housing and the inside ( what I could see had a a lot of build up.<br />this is a 1989 /88hp what is the best way to clean/flush the entire water/cooling system?<br />SHould I put in new t-stats?, can you run with out them? the water I run is is 88+degrees

In Clearwater, You probably are running in saltwater. In addition to above, use some Saltaway to flush deposits from your cooling system from time to time. As DJ says, replace the thermos and thoroughly clean everything inside the thermostat housing. Soak in a Saltaway solution if you need to loosen up the crud. BTW, I have a 1990 88SPCL and I've had much better luck with OMC replacement parts than with any others.
