82' 60hp johnson to a 79' 85 hp johnson

i recently just up graded from an 60 johnson (1982) to a 85 (v4) johnson (1979) ...<br /><br />my question is; can i use the same control box and cable ? and how do i determin wich cable goes where on the motor i know what cable is throttle and wich on is shift but how do i know on the motor?<br /><br />sorry one more question would any one know what size prop and pitch a 79 85hp v4 hohnson should have on it<br />thanks<br />paul

You can use the same control box & cables. <br /><br />Strangely enough, you may also be able to use the same prop. The triple gearbox (2.33:1, I think) has a slightly higher gear ratio than the V4s (2:1). The 85 may turn a little more pitch, but your old prop is the best place to start anyway. Prop it so it turns around 5500 with you alone in the boat. <br /><br />You'll notice a fatter punch AND more gas use.

they both have single handle controls, i don't see any reason why not. as for as the prop the 60 usally runs around a 13 1/4" prop no matter the pitch and the 85 may have up to a 14" inch prop they should interchange but if you put the 60 prop on the 85 i hope you have a tach so you can tell if it's overreving.
