I played with my timing advance stopper on a '71 Evinrude 60hp due to power issues. Wound up being a stuck float, but now I don't know exactly the previous position of the advance. Is there a procedure, or is it see what feels best at WOT?

Thanks!

Re: Timing Advance Question

You could toast the motor if the WOT timing is too advanced - not difficult on those highly-tuned triples. Full advance should be 22 deg BTDC. Ideally, you want to set this at 4500 rpm on a test prop. You can get close by setting it 19 degrees just cranking on the starter motor (plugs out, full advance, watch out that stray air/fuel mixture doesn't start a fire).
