I have a 8hp Nissan 2000. Don't know to disconnect the shift rod to remove lower unit.<br />Thanks

You have to drive out the roll pin that retains the lower shaft in the upper shaft. I suggest you get a couple of new ones to have on hand as it is easy to mangle them if you do not have the proper removal & installation tools.

Look just above where the lower unit attaches to the midsection - you will see two shafts held together by a coupling. The pins goes thru the coupling and shafts. Remove the lower one.
