Prop it to run at least 5500 RPM at wide open throttle with a light load.

Let us know what length, style and approx weight boat you plan on pushing with the engine and someone can help you with a starting point to prop it.

Its a 16 foot sea nymph boat with interior. What is the stock pitch prop that comes with it

I do not believe there was a stock prop.

I assume your Sea Nymph is aluminum.

If I had to guess, I would start out with a 15" pitch. Look here for available prop selections.

http://www.boat-props.com/propellers/

Im just asking if I bought the motor brand new in 79 what prop would have come with it. I don't have the funds to buy a bunch of props to try

As mentioned. The larger motors did not come with a standard prop. They had a prop "credit". It was up to the dealer to decide which prop would best fit the application.

As mentioned, as a guess, I would go with a 15" pitch.

Can't help you with that. I suggest you count the number of splines on the prop shaft of your engine.
