My counter motor is overheating. at idle water spit is normal ,when i hit the 2000 rpm mark the motor stops spitting water out of the tell whole . the motor heats up and the temp doesnt come down..even with the water coming back somewhat to the tell whole , when temp reaches 180 i shut the engine off to prevent damage to the head. i have replaced the whole water pump including bottom plate, key is in proper place.. I removed both thermostats, also idle some to see water gushing out of thermostat housings. compression 125 and above on all cylndrs. help!!

Does the warning horn work? If it does, does it ever sound? Or are we just going by a gauge?

The counter-rotation has nothing to do with the cooling. The couter-rotation is achieved in the foot (gearcase).

Anyway, you have a blockage, somewhere. I would start with the heads.

Removing the stats is not a good PERMANENT idea. OK for testing.

You can't examine the water passages with air. It is not a big job to pull the heads on those motors. One possibility is the deflectors which can only be checked by pulling the heads.

Those loopers dont have deflectore. I would suggest to start with the heads as DJ suggests. I would second his other advise also.

The other thing is to find out if its truly running hot or the other motor is running too cold.

Does the hot horn work? Does it kick in?

i have not tested the hot horns.. i will start with all the hints you guys have given me!!i m pulling the boat out tomorrow!! . what really troubles me is that at idle this counter motor works perfect,, the water tell tail is normal!! is spits the water better than the twin motor.. but when pushed it stops the water out of tell tail .as if there was no impellar.. anyway i will start on this project tomorrow!!
