My friend and I were out this weekend on his boat on which he has a late 70's (I believe) 70Hp Evinrude. His starter was spinning but the drive gear was not popping up to engage the flywheel. I got him started with a piece of rope with a knot in it. Later, I twisted the drive gear while holding the starter shaft and it moved up the gear. When we tried the starter again it worked.<br /><br />Is there some lubricant we cold put on the gear or is there some other problem that needs to be resolved.
