My spark plugs keep fouling on my 1976 35 hp Johnson. It starts and runs, but when I shut it off, I can't start it again unless I take out the plugs and clean them, they get covered with gas/oil fast. But, I can't start it unless I choke it first, even after I cleaned the plugs. The plugs are Champion QL77JC4, are those right? Is there something wrong with the carberator that it is getting to much gas, but without it, it won't start. Any help would be great thanks.

I'm showing UL81C as the correct plug(Hotter Plug), but the QL77JC4'S should work fine if everything else is working properly. Open the gap to .040 and see how it does. You may want to clean and rebuild the carb as good measure, also.

SparkPlugChart

And we might mention that 50:1 is the correct mixture...
