i have a 1963 75hp it will run for ten seconds or so then dies it will fire right back up. i just got the boat it hadn't been started for 4 years before i got it
is the timming mark on the dist.pulley supposed to line up with kill switch or the line on top of the mounting bracket? i have a manual ordered should arrive next couple days.
It is used for setting the timing with regards to the flywheel. Marks on dist pulley line up with mark on bracket and dot on flywheel is aligned with mark on block or flywheel/ring gear cover.
I have the same motor. I've found it needs points, condensor, plugs, fuel filter at least anually. Also a good dose of carb / choke cleaner to free up the choke. If you haven't done these yet - start there.
