what year did "shift on the tiller"come out

i have a chance to get a 25 horse evinrude with shift on the tiller but i dont knbow what year it is. does anybody know what year they came out with the tiller shift controls?<br /><br />m ikey

I have a 88 50 hp with the shift lever on the tiller base.If you can get the model number that would be the batter way to tell the year
