Take a compression test to make sure it's worth fixing up first. If you get better than 90psi, and no more than a 10% variation between the cyls, it's definetly worth fixing up. No sense beating a dead horse. <br />But if you do get low compression, check back here because there are some simple things you can do to repair low compression that sometimes work. For example decarbing it.<br />The model number should be on the nameplate, which is normally attached to the transom clamp. If not, check out the silver plug on the engine block itself, near the spark-plug end.<br />Report back with the numbers you find, and we'll try to date it. Then you can get yourself the appropriate service manual and start working on it.
