I bought a 95 Gruman w/ a 50 hp Johnson this past weekend. The alarm sounds every couple seconds and faster if the RPMs go up.I believe this is an oil issue.I believe this boat has sat for a couple of years because the gas was bad and I relpaced it and
now it runs good.I drained the oil tank[it was clean
inside also the screen looked clean]and replaced with new oil.How can I test the oil pump to see if it works[it is getting 9 volts]What should I test or look for? Also I do not believe this has been run much because I think it still had the original plugs in it?Also it seems to be getting alot of water which is why I think it is oil related! Thanks for any help,Dave

Re: buzzer is sounding

(VRO Horn Warnings)
(J. Reeves)

1 - A steady constant beep = Overheating - The V/6 engines, possibly some others, have a fuel restriction warning which is also a steady constant beep.
2 - A beep every 20 or 40 seconds = oil level has dropped to 1/4 tank. (Late model engine = Every 40 seconds)
3 - A beep every other second = VRO failure, air leak in oil line, oil restriction, (anything that would result in a lack of oil being supplied to the engine).

NOTE - The warning horn should beep once when the ignition key is turned to the ON position. If it does not, it is either faulty or someone has disconnected it (a stupid move!). At any rate, if it does not beep which indicates that the horn is non functional, find out why and do not run the engine until the problem is corrected.

red - There is no test - replace it and do the t-stats while you are at it. Buy a OMC shop manual while you are buying stuff - also change gear oil.

i would run the moter with 50:1 oil/gas mixture until you see oil consumption from your oil tank.
or disconect it and start mixing.
is safest in my opinion

reeldutch
