Hi - I have two questions, I have what I believe to be a 1962/63 40 HP Johnson on a 14 foot Polaris V-hull.

1. Can you confirm the details on the Johnson?
Model RKL-25D
Serial # 0390346

2. The Polaris hull is rated for a 40 HP engine, is this a weight rating or a speed rating. The current engine may need to be replaced and I am curious if I am able to put a newer, more powerful engine (i.e 60 HP or more)

Thanks kindly!

Your engine is a 1963 model, BBV, made in 1962.

The rating is for HP. It is determined by several factors; length, width, structure, transom style and height.

The USGC site has explanation of how it is calculated.
